Op. 7 | Fugue on a theme by Zoltán Göncz

compositions

In my most recent composition I have engaged with a soggetto by the Hungarian composer Zoltán Göncz and written a fugue based on that theme.

Zoltán Göncz, born in Budapest in 1958, is a contemporary Hungarian composer and musicologist. He is known for his complex compositions and his searching analyses of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Göncz’s compositions are marked by the use of mathematical models, intricate symmetrical structures and inventive extensions of traditional forms. A particular focus of his work lies in his intensive engagement with Bach’s compositional techniques and in the analysis and reconstruction of unfinished works, above all Bach’s “Art of Fugue”.
